About Us
NSCF is a charitable organization that motivates the Canadian youth to fulfill their potential and prepare for their future careers.
Our goal is to support after school learning programs that prepare the Canadian youth for the needs of a 21st century economy. We guide student dialogue and critical thinking through STEAM Education, an approach that combines Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics.
We merge different disciplines to develop what matters, through which we encourage experiential learning and meaningful collaboration.
Steam Education
STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics.
• Science – where scientific inquiry reigns supreme. Traditionally includes physics, biology, chemistry, and other areas of study.
• Technology - where scientific knowledge is applied for practical purposes, creating new machinery and new processes that transform society.
• Engineering - where science and math are used to solve practical problems.
• Art - where programming and art are used to create visual and modern art.
• Mathematics - where pure and applied math with all of its various sub-fields of analysis are put into practice.
While STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) programs equip the youth with the hands-on skills they need to step right into the 21st century economy, they lack one key component that prepares students for jobs that don’t even exist yet - a creative element.
STEAM uses the same learning components as STEM but completes the curriculum by also integrating principles from the arts. It encourages process-based learning by leveraging theories and concepts from the arts and integrating them with existing (STEM-based) lesson plans.
WHY STEM/STEAM?
Technology defines our now. It also heavily shapes our future prospects. As it continues to evolve at a fantastic pace and brings about a new wave of economic prosperity, it is critical that Armenian youth have access to programs that help develop their critical thinking, problem solving, creative, and collaborative skills. Even if students choose to not work in the fields of science, technology, engineering, the arts, or math, STEM/STEAM learning can equip them with the basic nutrients they need to step out into the workforce and not only thrive, but innovate.
OUR BELIEF
Collectivism – we work to remove boundaries between disciplines and train the youth to cultivate meaningful relationships that will help them build their careers in the future.
Integration – we step outside the traditional definition of schooling and integrate concepts and topics that open the doors to the real world.
Imagination – we integrate the principles of STEM in and through the arts, and we encourage wonder, inquiry, innovation, and imagination.
